Shopify: How do you revert to an older version of your theme?

Summary

When you take a Shopify theme, generally everything is working fine. But as time goes by, applications installed, small personal modifications made, it is very likely that your theme has bugs, or that it does not look like what you expected.

In these cases, we will have to try to revert to a previous version, where everything was fine.

Here is how to do it with 2 different methods. (if you want to directly access the simplest method click here).

The code method: use the theme history

Log into Shopify. Meeting on the administration page And click Online Store then Themes.

themes

All your themes will then appear. Select the topic concerned, and click on the drop-down menu Actions and choose Edit code.

Actions

Then you can easily find the files you have edited, in fact they are marked with a blue dot on the left. Click on the one you think you have wrongly edited.

Most of the time, when we make a mistake, it is theme.liquid who is concerned.

Next to the file name, at the top, click Older versions, as shown below.

older versions

A drop-down menu will appear, in which you will be able to see all the versions of the theme modified according to the day and time. Select the version a version earlier than your changes and save

old version

If you want, you can preview the selected version by clicking on Preview.

Simpler, our Go Back application

Shopify does not keep a backup of all your theme files. the CSS, javascript, assets etc ... are not conversed and therefore cannot be retrieved.

While with Go Back, you will no longer have to worry about making the slightest mistake when you modify your theme because the application allows you to create a daily backup of ALL files of ALL your themes.

So you can change your theme, customize it, install applications, knowing that at the slightest problem you can go back.
